BJP Mayor, MLA demand ban on mobiles for school girls

Date:

Aligarh: In what could be a bizarre statement, two Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders from Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh district have stirred up a controversy by demanding a ban on carrying mobile phones by school girls.

BJP MLA Sanjeev Raja along with Aligarh Mayor Shakuntala Bharti stated that mobile phones are one of the reasons why ‘girls in Aligarh were going in the wrong direction.’

“Why do young school-going girls need mobile phones? It is one of the reasons why girls of Aligarh are going in a wrong direction and meeting wrong people,” Bharti said.

Both the leaders supported each other and demanded the school authorities to ban mobile phones for the school-going girls.

“Use of mobile phones is already prohibited and this time we will make sure it is strictly followed. I support this move. Mobile phones have pros and cons. Girls students do not need mobile phones in schools, therefore, we will try to implement this move in other institutions as well,” Raja said.

Raising objection on girls covering their faces, the BJP leaders said there is no need for girls to cover their faces while travelling in scooters or walking on the streets.

“What is the need for girls to cover their faces,” Bharti asked adding that, “It is the parent’s responsibility to prohibit the girls from covering their faces while travelling.”

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has recently stated that his government will ensure that the women in the state feel secured.

The state government has also formed anti-Romeo squad to protect the honour of women and ensure the safety of college-going girls.
