Trump admin files notice challenging blocking revised travel ban

Date:

The Trump administration has filed a notice to appeal a Hawaii-based federal judge’s ruling that has indefinitely halted his revised travel ban.

The Justice Department will now file its formal appellate brief in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeal, where the case will finally be heard.

“The Justice Department strongly disagrees with the federal district court’s ruling. The President’s executive order fails squarely within his lawful authority in seeking to protect our nation’s security, and the department will continue to defend this executive order in the courts,” CNN quoted a department spokesperson as saying in a statement.

US District Court Judge Derrick Watson blocked the revised executive order two weeks ago, but it was only a temporary halt through a restraining order.

The plaintiffs asked for it to be converted into a longer term preliminary injunction, and he agreed last night.
