Modi’s magic worked for the BJP with the ruling party scoring a spectacular victory in the UP elections, winning 325 seats according to counting trends. The victory was a big personal victory for Narendra Modi who invested a lot of political capital in the elections. It is a thumbs up to PM’s bold demonetisation drive and as Finance Minister Arun Jaitley told NewsMobile, “The poor people have overwhelmingly for BJP,”. A clear indication that PM’s bold gambit of demonetisation has worked wonders.
In the neighbouring Uttarakhand, Congress lost badly with BJP scoring a big victory with 57 seats in the 70 member assembly. Outgoing CM Harish Rawat lost both the seats he contested.
Captain saves sinking Congress ship. For Congress, Captain Amrinder Singh turned the saviour with a big victory in Punjab winning 77 seats in the 117 member assembly. Captain outscored Arvind Kejriwal’s AAP that was predicted to be neck to neck with the Congress could only manage 22 seats. Akali BJP combine scored 18 seats.
While Congress was ahead in Goa with 18 seats, BJP was close second with 14 seats in the 40 member assembly. In Manipur Congress was slightly ahead with 27 seats and BJP was closely following with 22 seats.
Even though short of numbers BJP leader Sudhanshu Mittal, told NewsMobile that “Wait and watch BJP will form the government in Goa and Manipur,” The election results have strengthened the PM even further and will add to his reform agenda.
