Kaabil or Raees; Which film are you watching this Republic Day?

Date:

Raees or Kaabil, what to watch – this is a question that has been haunting Bollywood fans for quite some time now. Right from the moment the two production houses announced the release dates of the film, to be precise.

After many attempts at averting a box-office clash, Raees and Kaabil are both hitting the screens on January 25 now.

Kaabil

Actor Hritik Roshan and Yami Gautam‘s Kaabil is a Sanjay Gupta film, and in his films, the perfect cannot last for too long. They are both happy-go-lucky with a thirst to live life to the fullest. They are both blind too but the way Hrithik Roshan and Yami Gautam play the leads of Kaabil, it is more incidental than the central focus of the film.  In that sense, Kaabil is a formula film the likes of which director Gupta and producer Rakesh Roshan have tried time and again. The film pits its blind protagonist as a man on a mission, out for a vendetta,  destroy the people who have destroyed him.

The focus is on action, done the Sanjay Gupta way. The dull, dark tones and a lot of blood is expected in the movie. The focus is on Hrithik Roshan’s face and his blank eyes. The film’s music, despite the retreaded Haseeno Ka Deewana and Kissi se Pyaar Ho Jaaye, fails to actually stay with you for long. Urvashi Rautela’s sizzling dance number probably will take you  to yesteryears with twist.

The idyllic world of Hrithik and Yami is destroyed by Rohit and Ronit Roy’s baddies leaving a vacuum that only revenge can fill.  Hrithik will unleash mayhem in a style which is reminiscent of a typical Sanjay Gupta film. Rest is for you to watch out.

Raees

The Red Chilli Production’s Shahrukh Khan starrer Raees, oneof the most awaited flick of 2017 hits the screen on Wednesday. After quite some time we have seen Shah Rukh playing an out-and-out bad guy. His kohl-rimmed eyes have made many women go weak in the knees right from the time the first look of Raees was unveiled. Shah Rukh has played grey roles; quite promising in films such as Baazigar, Darr, and the more recent Don and Don 2.

Raees has Nawazuddin Siddiqui pitted against Shah Rukh Khan. The last time we saw Siddiqui and a superstar in the same frame, it was Salman Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan in 2015. He did a marvellous job in the film and this time expectations are high from him in Raees too. Apart from Siddiqui, there is Mahira Khan. The Pakistani actor is making her big Bollywood debut with Raees.

Shah Rukh plays Raees Alam, a character based on Abdul Latif,  the kingpin of the Gujarat underworld. There is a lot of mystery around Abdul Latif the person, which is all being hand-delivered to the screen by director Rahul Dholakia in Raees. The man started off as a delivery boy, rising in his ranks to move over to bootlegging, and finally going on to rule the underworld in Gujarat back in the 80s-90s.
