Mayawati hits out at the govt after ED’s disclosure

Date:

Lucknow: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Tuesday hit out at Modi government after the Enforcement Directorate detected cash deposits totalling over Rs. 104 crores in an account belonging to Bahujan Samaj Party and also his brother Anand Kumar.

Addressing the media, Mayawati asserted that the BJP is misusing the state machinery to slander the name of BSP party and herself.

She said the centre is “misusing its official machinery and trying to malign the image of her party.”

Hitting out at the BJP, Mayawati said, “We have the account of every rupee deposited in the bank, but what about deposits by BJP?”
She also said that the BJP is tarnishing out party’s image ahead of UP Elections.

“I want to tell the PM that if you have any honesty and sincerity, you should public any major expense, statement of deposits and expenditures of the BJP. Let is all be out in the open,” she said.

Earlier on Monday, the ED detected around 104 crores from UBI Bank in Karol Bagh area that were deposited in the account belonging to the BSP after the centre’s announcement on currency ban on November 8.

Another 1.43 crores were deposited in the account of Mayawati’s brother Anand Kumar, the investigators said.

The ED has also directed the bank to produce CCTV footage and KYC documents used to open the accounts.

Days after the demonetisation, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had said political parties can also deposit their cash held in the old currency in banks till December 30 without having to pay tax, granted they can disclose the source of income. He also stated the parties cannot receive donations in the banned currency and their records of accounts should display the listings prior to November 8.
