Stop staying the night at our stores, Ikea to teenagers

Date:

Swedish furniture giant Ikea has urged teenagers not to develop a new trend after two young girls were found to have sneakily stayed the night at one of their stores.

Walking through one of the most elegant bedroom displays at Ikea and assuming of having a similar bedroom back home isn’t an unusual experience for teens, but choosing to actually sleep there for the night is. Yet this is exactly what two teenagers headed to do in southern Swedish city Jonkoping.

“On Saturday morning before opening, two Ikea employees at the store in Jonkoping. noticed two girls aged around 14 who had stayed behind after closing and stayed the night in the shop. The girls were handed over to security who in turn contacted police,” Ikea Sweden spokesperson Jakob Holmstrom said.

However, for the two girls, the Ikea concluded that punishment should be dealt out by their parents rather than registering a complaint.

“Ikea chose not to file a police report on the grounds of the girls’ young age. Ikea had a real dialogue with their parents who really appreciated the seriousness,” Holmstrom said.

Incredibly, this is not the first time that someone has succeeded to stay at an Ikea store after closing. Earlier, in August, two Belgian comedians recorded a video doing just that, and it instantly went viral on Youtube with more than 1.7 million views.
