IIT-Roorkee gets Dr Ajit Chaturvedi as the new Director

President Pranab Mukherjee has appointed Dr. Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi as the new director of IIT Roorkee.

“Prof Ajit K Chaturvedi, who is the deputy director of IIT Kanpur at present and a senior faculty at the department of electrical engineering has now been appointed the director of IIT Roorkee,” said PK Ghosh, officiating director of IIT-R

The former director, Pradipta Banerji, completed his tenure in October this year. Since then IIT-R has been running with an officiating director at the helm.

However, the date of joining of the Dr. Chaturvedi is not yet clear. He is expected to take up the charge in three weeks.

Dr. Chaturvedi shares a link with IIT-Roorkee as he had served at the institute as the faculty member for a short period before joining IIT Kanpur.

“He had taught here at the department of electronics and computer engineering in 1997. The staff and students of the institute consider his appointment as a homecoming,” said Ghosh.

Chaturvedi, a specialist in wireless communication technology, has been an IITian throughout his academic career. He finished his BTech in 1986, MTech in 1988 and PhD in electrical engineering in 1995 from IIT Kanpur respectively.

Dr Chaturvedi is one of the finest scientific minds in the country and is known for his student centric approach at IIT-Kanpur.

During his work as faculty, he served at the department of electronics engineering at IIT (Banaras Hindu University) from 1994 to 1996.
Since 1999, he is serving at the department of electrical engineering of IIT-Kanpur.
He also served as the Head of Department (HOD) in 2009-2010 and THE dean of research development from 2011 to 2014.

Dr Ajit Chaturvedi is the proud achiever of the Distinguished Teacher’s award of IIT Kanpur.

He has actively associated with the projects of the Uttar Pradesh section of IEEE.
