Iinterim report on digital currency will be submitted to Centre within 2 to 3 days: A P C M Naidu

New Delhi: Chief Ministers’ Committee on digital payment will submit its interim report to the Centre within next two-three days.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who is the Convener of the Committee, said the Committee is exploring the possibility of the use of technology to simplify the digital payment procedures.

He said the best practices followed across the world will be incorporated. Mr Naidu this process of consultations with all governments, banks, engineers, technologists and service providers. He said the country is moving towards digital currency, which is cost effective compared to physical currency.

Stating that a large number of cell phone users are using internet, he called for making digital payment a mass movement. Mr Naidu said the main thrust of Thursday’s meeting with bankers in Mumbai was how to make it possible to enable the delivery of low denomination currency to common man.

He admitted there is a problem of connectivity in rural areas, which should be addressed. Mr Naidu said 500 rupee notes will adequately be made available to the public by 15th of this month. He said Aadhaar Card enabled digital transaction will be very handy for the people.

Talking about Andhra Pradesh, the Chief Minister said every household in the state will be provided internet connectivity with 15 MBPS speed. The proposal involves an expenditure of 330 crore rupees.

The services include the provision of all TV channels and Video Conferencing facility at a nominal cost of 149 rupees per month.
