The winter session of the Parliament has begun on Wednesday and Prime Minister Narendra Modi met senior ministers in parliament in the morning just before the session began, as a united opposition prepares to attack the government over demonetisation.

The march includes leaders of TMC, National Conference, Aam Aadmi Party and Shiv Sena demanding roll back of demonetisation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s abrupt withdrawal of 500 and 1,000 rupee notes has “taught the corrupt a strong lesson,” said minister Piyush Goyal in parliament responding to a scathing speech by the Congress’ Anand Sharma about how the ban has hit the poor, while letting fat cats off the hook.

“Stop the corrupt from looting the poor. For the first time, the honest have been honoured and the dishonest have been troubled,” he said.

“Today, you have to tell us who is threatening you, who wants to kill you, answer parliament, we cannot tolerate it. The entire house condemns it if there is a risk to the PM’s life,” Sharma said, starting the discussion in the Rajya Sabha on the notes ban and its impact.

“He beat his chest and said I’ve given up everything. You go all around the world, what sacrifice is this?”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed media as he entered Parliament House, he said the government was ready to discuss all issues raised by the opposition.

“Am sure we will have good debates on various issues, parties will present their views on issues. We will talk about people’s aspirations,” he said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi Tuesday urged all parties to work together to change the negative perception of people about politicians. But the Opposition, despite differences in the ranks, put up a united front, calling the demonetisation of higher denomination notes a “currency scam” that needed to be probed.
