Heavy rains forecast in TN from Deepavali day

\ Chennai, Oct 27 (PTI) Heavy rainfall is likely to occur\in several places in Tamil Nadu starting October 29 with theorth-east monsoon expected to set in the next day, the Met\department said today.\ Conditions were favourable for the withdrawal of\south-west monsoon following settling in of north-easterlies\along the east Coast.\\"Commencement of north-east monsoon rains\over the southern parts of peninsular India is likely around\October 30,\\" India Meteorological Department said in a\bulletin.\ It forecast heavy rainfall at isolated places over north\coastal Tamil Nadu on Saturday and said heavy rainfall at\isolated places was \\’very likely\\’ over the state on October\30, the day north-east monsoon is expected to set in,\indicating a wet Deepavali.\ IMD also forecast isolated heavy rainfall over Tamil\Nadu, south interior Karnataka and Kerala on October 31.\ North-east monsoon brings the bulk of annual rainfall to\Tamil Nadu besides other southern states.\ Last year, the north-east monsoon had wreaked havoc in\Tamil Nadu, with a record downpour in December 2015, resulting\in deluge in the four northern districts of Tamil Nadu –\Chennai, Tiruvallur, Cuddalore and Kancheepuram.
