Over 100 nations participating in 42nd IHGF-Delhi Fair

New Delhi: More than 5,000 buyers from over 110 countries including the US, UK, Japan and France are expected to attend the 42nd edition of the gifts and handicrafts fair IHGF-Delhi Fair Autumn 2016, to be held here from October 14-18.

Products on display will include gifts and decoratives, furniture, home furnishing, houseware, fashion jewellery & accessories, lamps and lighting, carpets and rugs, bathroom accessories, garden decoratives, educational toys etc.

The products are made from a varied raw material base consisting of wood, metal, cane & bamboo, textiles, natural fibers, wool, silk, jute, coir, stones, bone and horn, terracotta and lacquer, etc.

“Apart from overseas buyers, domestic volume retail buyers from many leading retail chains and e-commerce firms have confirmed their participation in IHGF-Delhi Fair Autumn 2016.

“Representatives of buying houses, buying agents,importers and wholesalers from America and Europe will also be visiting the fair,” a Textiles Ministry statement said.

One of the highlights of this year’s fair will be setting up of thematic pavilion of products from North Eastern Region. Further, handicrafts of Mega clusters like lace and lace crafts from Narsapur (Andhra Pradesh) and wooden handicrafts from Jodhpur would also be on display at the show.

Informative seminars are also being held at the venue on topics such as enhancing exports to the US market, cyber security and the internet as a growth driver to upgrade the knowledge of the participating companies.

Handicrafts exports during 2015-16 were Rs 21,457.91 crore with an overall increase of 6.85% over the previous year. During the first six months of the current financial year, exports to the tune of Rs 13,005.35 crore have been achieved.

Indian Handicrafts & Gifts Fair (IHGF) is amongst Asia’s largest gifts & handicrafts fair, held biannually (Spring & Autumn edition) and is organised by Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH), the nodal agency for promotion and development of handicrafts in the country.
