20cm ‘tail’ of an Indian teenager removed

A teenager had a tail of length 20 cm at the bottom of his spine. The tail has been surgically removed.

The tail started appearing,  just after his 14th birthday. The 18-year-old from Nagpur. They kept it secret because they were worried about society’s response.”It became a problem when the tail grew outside the body,” his mother said.
“When the size of the tail grew… [it] began to press on the boy’s back,” said surgeon, Dr Pramod Giri.
“It was cosmetically and psychologically disturbing for him.” It is not a complicated procedure, but must be carried out by a neurosurgeon.
