
Odisha-born IFS Amarendra Khatua carries over as secretary to the government of India and director general ( DG), Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) from Monday.
At ministry office, Mr. Khatua held India’s envoy to Argentina.
Dr. Amarendra Khatua is a career diplomat. He did his graduation from Delhi University in 1978. Dr. Khatua joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1981. He has worked as the Commercial Counsellor in Trade & Economic Positions in Spain, Pakistan, Russian Federation, Mexico and the USA.

He is currently serving as India’s Ambassador to Argentina, Cote De Ivoire and concurrently as Ambassador to Guinea and Liberia and as High Commissioner to Sierra Leone. He has also worked in the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Planning Commission.
He has been the Director (Finance), Ministry of External Affairs and worked in Finance Division, Northern Division, Latin America Division in the Ministry of External Affairs.

Indian Government in the last week of March 2012 designated Amarendra Khatua as its special envoy to South Sudan and Sudan to broker peace between the two nations. This was made with the objective of establishing India’s pursuit of oil and other hydrocarbon sources in Africa.
