LG inspects garbage dumps, asks MCDs to check mosquito

breeding New Delhi, Sep 21 (PTI) In the wake of a spurt in dengueand chikungunya cases, Lt Governor Najeeb Jung today reviewedthe condition of garbage dumps and directed municipalcorporations to regularly collect the waste and keep thesurrounding areas clean. He said that officials from Raj Niwas will regularlyinspect the garbage dumps in the national capital and askedthe civic agencies to pull up their socks. Jung inspected the garbage dumps at Angoori Khatta, AsafAli Road and Bela Road and officials from the Lt Governor’sSecretariat visited 17 garbage disposal sites in the city. The LG office in a statement said that after inspectingthe garbage dumps, he directed MCD officers "to ensure regularoperations of waste collection and removal". He also askedthem to keep the surrounding areas clean and sanitised tocheck the breeding of mosquito larvae. Such visits will continue in the coming days, thestatement said. The Special Secretary to the LG, along with DeputyCommissioner and Additional Commissioner of MCD, visited theNanak Pyao garbage dump, it said. At least 34 people have died due to chikungunya and denguewhich have affected close to 4,000 people in the city. PTI BUNGVS RTGVS
