CWMB to have representatives from Kar, TN: CWC

New Delhi, Sept 21 (PTI) Water management boards could bean ideal option for resolving water disputes between thestates like that between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka on Cauvery,a top Central Water Commission official said today. He also said that the Cauvery Water Management Board(CWMB), which is to be formed by the Centre on the directionof the Supreme Court, will have representatives from bothKarnataka and Tamil Nadu. "The water management boards could be the ideal option forresolving dispute between the states, including Karnataka andTamil Nadu. The Cauvery Water Management Board (CWMB) willhave representation from both the states," Central WaterCommission (CWC) Chairman G S Jha said here on sidelines of anAssocham event. Emphasising on water storage and its conservation forresolving such crisis, Jha said, "We cannot think of bringingwater security unless we are able to create enough capacityfor its storage and release it as per requirement." The Supreme Court yesterday directed the Centre toconstitute within four weeks the Cauvery Water ManagementBoard (CWMB) as directed by the Cauvery Water DisputesTribunal (CWDT) in its award. It also directed the Karnataka government to release 6,000cusecs of Cauvery water per day to Tamil Nadu from today tillSeptember 27. PTI JTR SMJ DVSMJDK
