New Delhi: In a major move, the cabinet on Wednesday broke a long going tradition, as it has approved the merger of the Union Budget and Railways budget.
Meanwhile, unlike the previous budget, this time, the general budget of the union government will be presented ahead of time i.e on February 1 instead of the last day of the month.

The finance ministry has proposed that the budget is presented on February 1 as opposed to the current practice of last working day of February, allowing the process to be completed before the new financial year begins, a senior government official quoted in a report.
