Vasai marathon offers Rs 35 lakh in prize money

Mumbai, Sep 20 (PTI) The 6th Vasai Virar Mayor’sMarathon, a national level event to be run on December 11, hasoffered a total prize fund of Rs 35 lakh across allcategories. The winner of the men’s full race stands to gain Rs 2.5lakh while the winners of the half marathon, among men andwomen, would each take home Rs 1.25 lakh each, it wasannounced by the Vashi Virar Municipal Corporation’s firstwoman Mayor, Pravina Thakur, at a media conference here today. Organised jointly by the Corporation and the Vasai TalukaKala Krida Vikas Mandal, the marathon gained national statusin 2012 and the upcoming race promises to be bigger andbetter, it was announced. Over the years, the event has attracted leading maleprofessional long distance runners in the country such asLyngkhoi Bining, Ram Singh Yadav, Elam Singh and Kheta Ram -among men.
