Normal work in govt schools, hospitals and offices affected

due to strike Lucknow Sep 20 (PTI) Normal work in state governmentschools, offices and hospitals was affected today with morethan 20 lakh employees, associated with different workersunions, observed a day-long strike in Uttar Pradesh. The call for strike was given by the ‘Karamchari-ShikshakSamyukt Morch’ for resolving pay anomalies, implementation of7th pay commission recommendations, opening recruitment ongrade four staff, pension and gratuity benefits for staffregularised till 2001 and others, a statement said. The employees of different government departments tookpart in protest meetings across the state and remained onstrike, a statement issued by the morcha said. The government hospitals were worst hit as it witnessed aheavy rush of patients suffering from dengue, malaria andviral diseases. As the nurses and pharmacists joined the strike, medicalservices in government-run hospitals in the state remainedparalysed rendering hardships not only to patients but also totheir attendants who were forced to depend on private clinicsfor x-ray, pathology and other medical assistance.
