Rs 32,000 cr for skill development in next 3 yrs: Rudy

Hyderabad, Sep 2 (PTI) Union government has made aprovision to the tune of Rs 32,000 crore for skill developmentin next three years, Minister of State for Skill Developmentand Entrepreneurship Rajiv Pratap Rudy said here today. "By next three years, the Government of India is committedto a total amount in skilling…the provision made is to thetune of Rs 32,000 crore. Never ever in the history ofindependent India, this large allocation has been done andthis has been done at the instance of the Prime Minister(Narendra Modi) himself," Rudy told reporters. "The challenge today is to see how this money has to beutilised and…the formulation whether between the ITIs andPMKVY (Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana) or through theApprenticeship Scheme which has been completely revised," hesaid. Rudy recalled that Central government through Cabinetdecision for the PMKVY has given the ministry Rs 12,000 crore. Under the World Bank scheme of strengthening theinstitutions of state and central governments, a loan of USD1.5 billion was committed. And recently under apprenticeshipScheme another Rs 12,000 crore was given, he said. Out of the Rs 12,000 crore sanctioned for Pradhan MantriKaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), 25 per cent of this money willgo directly to the states, Rudy said. "The guidelines for the state governments are beingprepared and once the guidelines are ready they will be sentto the states in the next 15 days and the state governmentswill have to send their proposals, and then we will sanctionthem," the minister said. Rudy said model centres for skills will be establishedunder PMKVY across the country. "There are 2,500 blocks in the country which do not haveITIs, and Government of India is planning to set up in eachand every unserviced block of this country the multi-skilltraining institutes," he said.
