PM hails ISRO for successful testing of scramjet rocket engine

New Delhi, Aug 28 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Moditoday hailed ISRO scientists on the successful testing ofscramjet rocket engine, saying they have again made India veryproud. "Successful testing of scramjet rocket engine is atestimony to the hardwork & excellence of our scientists.Congratulations to ISRO," he tweeted. "We have seen time and again how our scientists & spaceprogramme has made India very proud," he added. India joined a select club of nations by successfullytest firing its futuristic Scramjet Rocket Engine using oxygenfrom the atmosphere that could cut the cost of the launchesseveral fold and help in ISRO’s bid to design advanced airbreathing engines. The first experimental mission of Scramjet Engine wassuccessfully conducted from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre atSriharikota in Andhra Pradesh at 6 AM, Indian Space ResearchOrganisation said. It described the mission as a "modest" yet importantmilestone in its bid to design and develop advanced airbreathing engines, including ones for its future spacetransport system. India is the fourth country to demonstrate the flighttesting of Scramjet Engine after the US, Russia and EuropeanSpace Agency. PTI AKKAKK
