The Depression over northwest Bay of Bengal and The Depression over northwest Bay of Bengal andneighbourhood moved slightly northwestwards and intensifiedinto a Deep Depression, lay centred at 1430 hrs IST ofyesterday the 17th Aug. 2016 over the same region, near Lat.21.6°N / Long. 88.4°E, about 70 kms east-southeast of Dighaand 155 kms east of Balasore. It further moved northwestwards and crossed WestBengal coast between Digha and Diamond harbour around 1700 hrsIST of yesterday and lay centred at 1730 hrs IST of yesterday,the 17th Aug. 2016 over Gangetic west Bengal andneighbourhood, near lat. 22.0°N / Long. 88.2°E, close toDiamond harbour. It further moved northwestwards and lay centred at0830 hrs IST of today, the 18th August 2016 over Jharkhand andadjoining areas of north Chhattisgarh and south Bihar, nearLat. 24.0°N / Long. 85.0°E, about 100 kms east of Daltonganj.The system is likely to move west-northwestwards and weakeninto a Depression during next 24 hours. The western end of axis of monsoon trough at mean sealevel runs close to the foot hills of the Himalayas. Its eastern part passes through Bareilly, Sultanpur,centre of the Deep Depression over Jharkhand and adjoiningareas of north Chhattisgarh and south Bihar, Midnapur andthence southeastwards to northeast Bay of Bengal. A cyclonic circulation extending between 3.1 & 5.8kms a. s. l. lies over Saurashtra and Kutch and neighbourhood. The western disturbance as a trough in midtropospheric westerlies now runs with its axis at 5.8 kms a.s. l. roughly along Long.72°E to the north of Lat.28°N. Systemis likely to move east-northeastwards. The cyclonic circulation over West Uttar Pradesh &neighbourhood has become less marked. The southwest Monsoon has been vigorous over Jharkhandand active over Gangetic West Bengal. It has been subdued overArunachal Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, west Rajasthan, GujaratState, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Vidarbha, AndhraPradesh and Interior Karnataka. PTI RDS ASVRDS
