Secure future of coming generations: Khattar to VCs

Chandigarh, Aug 17 (PTI) Haryana Chief Minister ManoharLal Khattar today urged the vice-chancellors (VCs) ofuniversities to secure the future of the coming generationswhile selecting faculty members and lay greater emphasis onvocational education which was the "need of the hour". Addressing a state-level conference of VCs, organised bythe Haryana Higher Education Department here, he asked them toidentify the areas for quality education so that the statecould emerge as an "education hub" in the real sense of theterm, said a release. Khattar said the VCs served as heads of universities for alimited period of time but the faculty they recommended forselection rendered service for around 35 years to shape thedestiny of the future generations. He stressed on transparency in the recruitment process andsaid there should be no compromise on such issues. "A goodfaculty is essential in higher education for providing qualityeducation to the youth so that they could grow as goodcitizens of the state and the nation," he said. Maintaining that "employment-oriented education" was theneed of the hour, the Chief Minister said universities shouldalso lay emphasis on skill development of the youth so thatthey could become "employable". Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma, Additional ChiefSecretary, Higher Education Vijai Vardhan, Director, HigherEducation Vikas Yadav, VCs of state universities and otherofficers of the department were present on the occasion.
