The opposition parties also said that it has been seenthat hitherto peaceful areas in the state are being draggedinto the situation by nocturnal raids, arrests, includingunder PSA, and wanton harassment of the youth which hasfurther aggravated the extremely volatile situation. "We demand such measures are stopped immediately," theresolution said. "The unchecked use of pellet guns has maimed, blinded andhandicapped hundreds of young boys and girls. We demand theuse of pellet guns be immediately discontinued without waitingfor the so-called committee of the central government to takecognizance of the humanitarian crisis in the valley in thisrespect," they said. Jammu and Kashmir has always been a beacon of communalharmony and religious tolerance even in the most difficultcircumstances, the opposition parties, said adding "we appealto the people of the state and all stakeholders to continuesafeguarding and upholding this legacy at all costs". They said it was also decided in the meeting that theOpposition parties would explore the possibility of jointlycalling on the President of India as well as leaders ofnational political parties to discuss the current situation inthe state.
