Prabhu announces four new trains

Vadodara, Aug 17 (PTI) Union Railway Minister SureshPrabhu today announced four new categories of trains, one forunreserved passengers and three for reserved ones, whichwill be operational in the next couple of months. "The reason behind starting new train for unreservedpassengers is to ensure that those belonging to the ‘Antodyaclass’ (very poor people) can also travel by train," Prabhusaid. The Minister was speaking after a Memorandum ofUnderstanding was inked between city-based National Academy ofthe Indian Railway (NAIR) and MS University of Baroda in thepresence of Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel. "It is the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi toprovide travelling facility to this (Antodaya) category ofpeople," he added. "The Antyodaya Express, a long-distance, fullyunreserved, super-fast train service is to be introduced forthe common man and it will operate on dense routes," Prabhuadded. As per the Minister, the Railways will also add two tofour ‘Deen Dayalu’ coaches to some long-distance trains forunreserved travel to enhance the carrying capacity. "The other trains to be introduced are Humsafar – a fullythird AC train. The Tejas category of trains will run at 130km an hour with local cuisine, Wi-Fi and other amenities onboard," Prabhu added. "The final category is UDAY (Utkrisht Double-DeckerAir-conditioned Yatri), which will be overnight trains plyingon the busiest routes to increase capacity by 40 per cent,"said the Minister. "It (introduction of four trains) is in an attempt toenhance railway services across the country. The Railwayministry does not want the state Chief Ministers to visit NewDelhi on eve of the presentation of Railway Budget forincluding their state’s demand in the Budget," he added. "Now the Ministry has been approaching all the stategovernments to join hands with the Railways and jointly floatcompanies to execute projects in their respective states," theBJP leader said.
