Man wanted by Bihar police arrested in Delhi

New Delhi, Aug 17 (PTI) A man who was allegedly involvedin a brutal gang rape and murder of a girl in Bihar and hadescaped from the custody of the local police, has beenarrested from south west Delhi, police said today. The accused Arjun Mahto, who was allegedly involved in agang rape and murder of a girl in Sitamarhi district in Bihar,was arrested near Uttam Nagar Metro station by a police teamon August 16, said Surender Kumar, DCP(south west). Mahto had allegedly raped and then murdered a girl inKanhauli Bazar village in Sitamarhi(Bihar) when he was ajuvenile, along with three other persons in 2011, he said. He was on the run for more than a year before he wascaptured by the Bihar police in 2013 only to escape from theircustody in 2014. Since then, he had moved to Delhi and wasinvolved in cases of auto-lifting and snatching, said theofficer. Mahto was planning to form a gang to become a gangster inhis home state after procuring arms. He had gone to fetch armsfrom a supplier near Uttam Nagar Metro station where he wascaught by the police that had laid a trap for him on a tipoff. PTI SLB VITRG
