Youth should know of sacrifices of martyrs: Javadekar

Gorakhpur, Aug 16 (PTI) Union HRD Minister PrakashJavadekar today said it was the duty of the youth to know ofthose who made sacrifices for the freedom of the country. He was at Gorakhpur divisional jail here to take part in aprogramme which formed a part of the BJP’s ‘Tiranga Yatra’. Javadekar said in an initiative by his ministry, on August23, around 27 crore students would sing the national anthemall over the country. Paying his tributes to the martyrs, he said thecontribution of revolutionaries such as Ram Prasad Bismil was"unforgettable" and added that it was the duty of the youth toknow about those who laid down their lives for freedom. The minister said the ‘Tiranga Yatra’ was taken out tocreate awareness, especially among the youth, regarding thecontribution of the martyrs. Asserting that the Kakori incident (during the freedomstruggle) could never be forgotten, he said Bismil was hangedwhen he was only 23. Javadekar also felicitated the families of the martyrs ofthe Chauri Chaura incident and visited the jail barrack andthe place where Bismil was hanged. PTI CORR AVA RC RGRC
