TMC seeks appointment with PM on Aadhaar for scholarship

Kolkata, Aug 16 (PTI) Claiming that making Aadhaar cardmandatory for getting scholarships was a "conspiracy againststudents", the Trinamool Congress today said it has soughtan appointment with the Prime Minister on this issue. "This is a conspiracy against the students. All studentcommunities should come together to fight it. Our MP hassought an appointment with the PM with whom the issue will beraised," a top Trinamool Congress leader said. The leader claimed that the Centre had bypassed all rulesto make Aadhaar mandatory for getting government scholarshipsand setting August 31 as the deadline for it. "SC, ST and all minorities will be affected likeChristians, Muslims, Jains, Nepali speaking people, etc," theleader said. The leader said lakhs were suffering in matters relatedto pension, MGREGA scheme, midday meal, etc because thebeneficiaries do not have Aadhaar cards. He said direct beneficiary transfer was being done in theKanyashree scheme of the West Bengal government. "Our direct beneficiary scheme can be merged with Aadhaarcard," the leader said, adding the issue was also creating alaw and order problem in the state. PTI NIK MDSRY
