Puducherry, Aug 16 (PTI) AIADMK today urged the Centre tointervene and seek a detailed report from the Puducherrygovernment on the alleged attack on a mosque near here. "The Centre should seek a detailed report from thePuducherry government, particularly, the breach of the ban onpermission for meetings near places of worship," AIADMKlegislature wing leader A Anbalagan told reporters here. Stating that police should have denied permission to theHindu Munnani to hold a meeting near the mosque, he said thegovernment should conduct a probe as to how the standing orderbanning meetings near places of worship was ‘breached’. Criticising Chief Minister V Narayanasamy, the AIADMK MLAsaid, instead of ordering a probe into the incidents, he hadsaid Goondas Act would be invoked against those fanningcommunal clashes, which was not sufficient. CPI (M) Puducherry unit Secretary R Rajangam criticised the’failure of the police to prevent attack on mosque’ here andsought a high-level probe into the incident. The incident occurred on Sunday when a public meeting wasorganised by the Hindu Munnani near the mosque in Orleanpet. After the meeting got over, a group of unidentifiedpeople had allegedly damaged the glass panes on the ground andfirst floors of the mosque, prompting Narayanasamy to order aprobe into the incident. According to Hindu Munnani, while the meeting was inprogress an unidentified person had allegedly hurled a bottlefrom a corner targetting the stage, injuring three persons.
