134 new cases of dengue, toll remains stationary at 17

Kolkata, Aug 16 (PTI) No dengue death was reported fromany part of West Bengal in the last 24 hours and the tollstood at 17. However, 134 new cases of dengue infection were reportedfrom different parts of the state taking the total number ofpeople infected by the virus to 3,004, West Bengal Director ofHealth Services Biswaranjan Satpathy told PTI. Most of these cases were reported in the last 24 hoursfrom Hooghly district’s Serampore and North 24-Parganasdistrict, the medical officer said. Talking about a report of Scrub Typhus infection in thecity, Satpathy said, "We have heard of a person in the cityinfected by the disease. We have sought report from ourmedical officers… But if it turns out to be true then itwill be a first case of Scrub Typhus in Kolkata." Sathpathy said that Typhus, is transmitted generally tohumans by mites mostly in North Bengal’s Mirik. PTI SCH MDIKA
