118 plaints of sexual harassment filed in MCGM: RTI

    Mumbai, Aug 16 (PTI) As many as 118 complaints ofsexual harassment were filed at the Municipal Corporation ofGreater Mumbai (MCGM) between 2013 and July this year,according to an RTI query. The RTI was filed by social activist Anil Galgali. In reply, Public Information Officer andAdministrative Officer of Savitribai Phule Women ResourceCentre Rekha Kale said 32 cases of sexual harassment atworkplace were reported in 2013, 34 cases in 2014, 31 cases in2015 and 21 cases till July this year at the MCGM. "All 97 cases filed in 2013, 2014 and 2015 have beendisposed off after following the due procedure while 17 out of21 cases filed in the current year have been disposed off andonly four cases are pending," says the reply furnished byComplaints Committee working under Women Sexual HarassmentPrevention chief and ‘Savitribai Phule Women resource centre’jointly. The reply, however, did not mention what punishmentwere given to those found guilty. "It is up to the department concerned to take the callon punishment, but simultaneously the quantum of thepunishment can not be disclosed as per the section 16 ofSexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention,Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013," it said.
