Rain lashes Uttar Pradesh; thundershower predicted

Lucknow, Aug 11 (PTI) South-West monsoon was normal inUttar Pradesh as the state witnessed light to moderate rain orthundershowers at many places today. According to the Met department, Rae Bareli and Raniganjrecorded maximum eight cms of rainfall each while Kaimganj andMaharajganj received six cms of rain each. It said that rain or thundershower was likely at manyplaces in the next 24 hours. Meanwhile, according to reports from Barabanki, army wascarrying out relief and rescue operations following breach inElgin-Charsari embankment constructed on the Ghaghara river. According to Central Water Commission, Ghaghra was stillflowing above the danger mark at Elginbridge (Barabanki) andAyodhya. It was flowing near danger mark at Turtipar in Balliadistrict. The Sharda river was also flowing above the red lineat Paliakalan and close to it at Shardanagar. The Ganga was also swelling and has crossed danger mark inBallia and was flowing near the danger mark in Fatehgarh,Ghazipur and Kanpur. PTI AVA CPS RGCPS
