With a rise of the middle class in India, luxury automakers are constantly targeting this market for its untapped potential. In October 2016, Volvo Cars India is set to launch the S90 premium luxury sedan in the country. The S90 will essentially compete with cars such as Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Audi A6 and BMW 5 Series. The company has promised that with this car they will shake the car segment in the respective price range.
Tom von Bonsdorff, the MD of Volvo Auto India, believes that after the success of the XC90, the S90 too will capture the imagination and needs of the Indian customer. The car comes with powerful engine with the following specifications.
The India-specific S90 will be launched in the 1,969cc diesel engine model unlike the models available globally. Volvo Cars currently sells six luxury vehicles in India: S60, S80, V40, V40 Cross Country, XC60 and XC90 making S90 its seventh model in the country. Experts expect Volvo to price this behemoth of a car at around Rs 50 lakh for its base version (ex-showroom).
