Kerala Unhappy With Centre’s Nod for Colachel Port

Date:

The central government has given clearance to a container port in Colachel, which is less than 50 km away from the Vizinjam container port near Thiruvananthapuram.

Kadannapally Ramachandran, the minister for ports in Kerala expressed his concern regarding the location of the port and its proximity to Vizinjam.

This Thursday, Veteran CPM leader V S Achuthanandan said the Centre’s plan to sanction Colachel is with a view to sabotage Vizinjam terminal. He said that handing over the Vizinjam project and Colachel project to the private sector will be a threat to the region.

The leader said that this will be discussed later in the Kerala Assembly.
