Dhaka terrorists were from affluent families, went to good schools

Date:

An alarming report from Bangladesh says the terrorists involved in the Dhaka café massacre were all young men and they were from affluent families and had studied in elite schools in the city, has surprised a lot of people. Bangladesh government informed media about this on Sunday.

The men were all aged 20 or 21 years old and they were the students of Dhaka’s North-South University. Bangladesh media even identified some of their former classmates as well.

Three of the gunmen whose photos the ISIS has released have so far been identified. One of them, Nibras Islam, has been recognised by his former classmates in the private North South University that requires almost all students to pay high tuition fees.

Even the high school where Nibras went for years, International Turkish Hope School, is not for everyone in Bangladesh. Apparently, young Nibras has been identified also as the ‘treasurer’ of Australia-based Monash University’s International Student Services for its Malaysia campus.

He returned from Malaysia and enrolled himself at the private university in Dhaka because ‘he didn’t like it in Monash’. He liked football. His businessman father has two houses in Dhaka.

The two other gunmen have identified as Mir Samih Mubashir and Rohan Imtiaz. Both went to Scholastica. Samih and Rohan, both had gone missing before the incident.

A local newspaper has reported that Mubashir had been missing for last four months. His father, Mir A Hayat Kabir, an executive at Alcatel-Lucent Bangladesh, registered his son’s details with Gulshan police on Feb 29, the day he ‘went missing’.

In the mean time, the ISIS has released names and pictures of men who are involved behind this attack. This names and pictures are yet too confirmed by the Bangladesh government.

Tough Asaduzzaman, country’s Home Minister assumes attackers are not from the ISIS and they belong to the banned local militant group Jamaeytul Mujahdeen Bangladesh. He believes, attackers are highly educated young man. They are not even from madrassa.

This raises concerns on young minds being indoctrinated and requires a concerted strategy to deal with terror of this kind.
