The mega-olympian is back and he is back for good. American swimmer Michael Phelps qualified for Rio Summer Olympics 2016 by clocking 1:54:84 in the 200m butterfly event. He created history by becoming the first male swimmer to participate in 5 summer olympic games.
Phelps, who changed his decision of retiring after last Olympics, was far away from his 2009 Olympic record which stands at 1:51:51. However, there is a lot of time between the qualifying rounds and Rio and fans can expect better timing from their all-time favourite swimmer.
Phelps says that he is thrilled to be back at Rio where he will have an opportunity to add to his bounty of 18 gold and 22 medals gathered over the past 4 Olympics.
Phelps 7 week old child Boomer was also seen in the stands with his mother. He was wearing noise cancelling headphones so that he wouldn’t get scared by the uproar and cheering for his father.
