L/n Hanamanthappa Passes away

For our soldiers, nothing is greater than their love of the motherland and their duty towards the nation always reigns supreme. They are those people who do not think twice before laying down their lives in order to protect their nation and its people from the enemy. One such braveheart was Lance Naik Hanamathappa Koppad. He was rescued six days after he was buried under 35 feet of snow at an altitude of 20,500 ft on the Siachen glacier. Three days later, he breathed his last on Thursday at 11:45 am.

Here are some of the unknown facts about the Braveheart:

  • Hanamanthappa was named after Lord Hanuman, known for his strength, courage and loyalty.
  • “Strong but soft-spoken,” was the descriptor that relatives and friends used often for him.
  • He used to walk over 6 kms everyday to reach his school in Karnataka.
  • He was rejected thrice by the army but he kept trying until he finally cracked it.
  • He got the inspiration at home. He had seen many in his village go to the army.
  • Apart from being a great soldier he was a yoga expert too and used to advise his colleagues on breathing exercises.
  • Hanamanthappa has left behind a young wife and two-year-old daughter.
