At least 12 people were killed and 6 other were wounded on Friday as a Molotov cocktail was hurled at a Cairo restaurant resulted in a blast, Egyptian security officials confirmed.
The attacker is believed to be a former employee who had been fired from the restaurant in the centre of the Egyptian capital, one security official said.
Victims of the blast were burned to death or died from smoke inhalation. The restaurant, also a nightclub, was in a basement, offering no escape route, the officials said.
Islamist militants have claimed a number of bombing and shooting attacks in Egypt.
