How Rahul’s snap poll backfired

Date:

In a major embarrassment, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s question on whether Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ambitious Clean India campaign is working or not was met with a resounding ‘yes’ on Wednesday.

In a Q&A at the prestigious Mount Carmel College, Gandhi spoke on a range of subjects with a common theme, that the “suit-boot” government was failing on all fronts.

“Is Swachh Bharat working? Is Make in India working?” the Congress leader popped the question to his audience. If he hoped for a loud, resounding “no”, he did not get one.

The embarrassment for the Congress vice-president came in the middle of a fresh round of attacks he launched on Modi, saying one man decides everything in the NDA government.

“PM thinks India can be transformed by the PMO alone. One man alone cannot transform the country. How can one person have all the answers?” the 45-year-old leader said during an interaction with the students of Mount Carmel College in Bangalore.

“I am against the idea that certain people in the country have all the answers, and everybody else should not be part of the conversation,” Rahul said, adding that the “suit-boot sarkar”, his famous phrase for the government, is failing.
