Border (1997)
As soon as we talk about army and Bollywood together, the first movie strikes our minds is JP Dutta directed ‘Border’. Border showcases the story of battle of Longewala in 1971 Indo Pak War. The multi starrer had Sunny Deol, portraying Major Kuldip Singh Chandpuri along with Sunil Shetty, Akshaye Khanna and Jackie Shroff.
Where Eagles Dare (1968)
The storyline of the movie discusses the daring rescue operation of a Brigadier General by a team of British commandos lead by a Major along with an American Captain all dressed as Nazis during the second World War.
Making things interesting is that the Brigadier is in the knowledge of the upcoming Normandy landings. Richard Burton plays Major Smith while Clint Eastwood plays Lt. Schaffer. Probably one of the best war movies ever made.
Lakshya (2004)
The story revolves around a young lazy graduate without any Lakshya (aim) in life who gradually decides to join army.
Though, Hrithik Roshan starrer is a work of fiction, it had the Kargil war as its backdrop with lieutenant Karan Shergill, who leads his squad to triumph over the Pakistani troops.
LOC Kargil (2003)
Inspired by 1999 Kargil war, LOC Kargil is another masterpiece by JP Dutta, based on the true events in Kargil war fought between India and Pakistan. It was a multi-starrer that was mainly centered on Operation Vijay.
The multi-starrer featured starring Sanjay Dutt, Ajay Devgn, Arman Kohli, Nagarjuna, Saif Ali khan, Akshaye khanna, Abhishek Bachchan, Mohnish Bahl, Manoj Bajpai, Kareena kapoor Khan, Rani Mukherjee, Raveena Tandon and Esha Deol.
Apocalypse Now (1979)
Featuring Marlon Brando, Martin Sheen, Robert Duvall, Dennis Hopper and Harrison Ford, all in their prime, this movie is an army enthusiast’s delight.
The story is about Capt. Willard’s (Sheen) mission in Cambodia to kill renegade Colonel Walter Kurtz (Brando) during the Vietnam War.
Madras Cafe (2013)
Madras Café is based on an Indian intelligence agent’s series of journeys to a war-torn coastal island to break a resolute rebel group and meets a passionate journalist.
Featuring John Abraham, Nargis Fakhri and Prakash Belawadi, Madras Café is influenced by LTTE problem in Southern India during 1980s and 1990s.
Holiday (2014)
Holiday is said to be quite out of the box movie that features Akshay Kumar as a Military officer who returns back home from holiday. Eventually get clues about terrorism and ‘sleeper cell’ and goes on to destroy the base of these sleeper cells to protect city from terrorism.
