Airfare war begins ahead of festive season

New Delhi: The airfare war is here once again. As India gears up for the festive month, AirAsia India is offering all-inclusive fares starting as low as Rs 1,290 (all-inclusive), aiming to tap festival season demand.

Bookings under the AirAsia scheme can be made till October 18, 2015 for travel period between October 7, 2015 and February 29, 2016.

Tickets for travelling from Bengaluru to Visakhapatnam and Imphal to Guwahati, and vice versa, are priced at Rs 1,290 – the lowest all-inclusive fare offered under the festival offer.

Among other destinations covered under the scheme, Bengaluru to Kochi is priced at Rs 1,390; Bengaluru-Goa at Rs 1,590; Pune-Bengaluru at Rs 1,690; Delhi-Goa at Rs 3,690; Delhi-Bengaluru at Rs 3,690, and Delhi-Guwahati at Rs 3,690.

Every other week, airlines have been announcing promotional schemes offering discounted fares in a bid to garner market share in a fiercely competitive environment.

Rival GoAir and Jet Airways are offering discounts on travel on Tuesdays.

Passengers carried by domestic airlines during January to August 2015 were 523 lakh – a growth of 21 per cent as compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
