World Rugby disciplinary chiefs on Friday banned Tonga prop Tevita Mailau for two weeks for a dangerous tackle in a World Cup match against Namibia, a statement said.
The ban ruled Mailau out of Tonga’s final Pool C games against Argentina on Sunday and New Zealand five days later.
He could play in the knockout phase if the Pacific islanders qualify.
Mailau, 30, came on as a second half replacement but was cited for a high tackle on Namibia hooker Louis van der Westhuizen in a match the Tongans won 35-21.
The Tongan, who plays for French side Stade Montois, denied the foul which was caught after a review of television coverage, according to World Rugby.
