A BBC reporter’s point was made for her when she had sexual obscenities shouted at her during a field report about street harassment.
The incident took place in Nottingham, as reporter Sarah Teale was filming her piece-to camera about high levels of sexual harassment and assault in the area.
In the video, posted to the station’s Facebook page, Teale begins her report:
“An online study showed that a shocking 95 per cent of people had been harassed, whether jeered at, or had obscenities shouted at them in the street and a large proportion said they’d also been groped or grabbed inappropriately in public”.
A few seconds later, a man’s voice can be heard shouting obscenities her way.
The words were bleeped out by BBC but they were described as being ‘sexual obscenities’ by BBC Radio Nottingham.
Teale also tweeted in anger and then uploading the video on Facebook. She ended her broadcast by gesturing toward the unidentified man and saying angrily, ‘Yeah, like that’.
Irony – reporting how 95% of women are victims of verbal harassment-and a man shouts sexual obscenities at me @bbcemt pic.twitter.com/qYzN40ZfNL
