Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was forced out of the Steelers’ NFL game at St. Louis on Sunday with a left knee injury.
Roethlisberger was hurt late in the third quarter when Rams safety Mark Barron rolled into his lower leg on a sack.
The sack was the second on consecutive plays.
Roethlisberger made it to the sideline under his own steam, but was taken to the locker room on a cart for further evaluation, and was declared out for the rest of the game.
When he limped off the field, Roethlisberger was replaced by backup quarterback Michael Vick.
Vick, the first overall pick in the 2001 NFL draft whose career was interrupted by a stint in prison for his involvement in a dogfighting ring, was signed to a one-year contract by the Steelers in August as a back-up to Roethlisberger.
