Modi woos the world with ‘Sartorial’ Diplomacy

Date:

If International Divas have always caught the attention of the paparazzi for their gowns at Cannes, our Prime Minister’s iconic dresses have also become the cynosure for fashionistas around the world. Whether he is meeting the aristocracy of entrepreneurs the representatives of foreign countries, Mr Prime Minister is always dressed according to the occasion. He also pays special attention to his dress code during his visits to neighbor countries. For his recent visit to the Facebook headquarters in Menlo Park, California for a townhall meeting, he ensured that he was at par with the Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s formal appearance (as opposed to Zuckerberg’s regular grey T-shirt, black hoodie and jeans to work everyday) .

Modi was dressed in a white shirt and black trouser teamed up with a half sleeve black jacket and neatly polished pair of black shoes. Not to forget the black square cufflinks that added the extra finesse to his urban-corporate look. In his maiden visit to United States, last year, Modi hired a top notch designer, Troy Costa from Mumbai to design outfits that would help him selling his idea of newly confident and aspirational India. This year too, the Prime Minister has paid special attention to his outfits that would match his agenda for the visit. While he followed a corporate look for the Facebook townhall meeting , he chose to go completely traditional in his address at Madison Square with white kurta-pyjama and golden half sleeve Nehru jacket.

Our politicians have often been mocked by the media for their crumpled dhoti-clad look but Modi has taken political dressing to a different level with his meticulous style favoring half sleeved linen and churidar pyjamas paired with Nehru jackets.

He is turning heads with his dapper looks and his traditional style blended with contemporary clothing. His fondness for bright colored bandhgalas and well cut traditional and urban suits makes him stand out amongst others and puts him in the league of well dressed politicos.

While he wore a sky blue waistcoat with a golden kurta and white churidar pyjama, during his visit to Nepal, he chose a brown suit with a mandarin collar livened up with red-and-green silk pocket. When Modi arrived at JFK airport in U.S in September 2014, he made sure all eyes are on his wine-colored bandhgala suit. Who can forget his custom made pinstriped blue jacket suit with ‘Narendra Damodardas Modi’ written all over in small golden alphabets.

With different attires suited for various occasions, Modi has cultivated himself really well from the beginning of his election campaign to now and he always becomes the talk of the town for his dress codes.
