Jurassic World, the fourth film in the series has already done a tremendous job by gorging up the competition of scoring the title of the biggest blockbuster worldwide. The film had a bumper opening and earned $511 million in 3 days at the box office after its release.
In a span of mere 13 days, the film starring Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard and Irrfan Khan has earned approximately Rs 6300 crore.
The film has also earned $402.8 million in the US, which means it also holds the title for fastest film to reach $400 million domestic in just 10 days.
Over the weekend, Jurassic World scored the highest-grossing second week at the domestic box office with $106.6 million, topping $400 million in North America in 10 days.
Part of Jurassic World’s success comes from big numbers at 3D, IMAX, and premium large format theatres. Roughly half of the box office numbers came from 3D ticket sales, and the action flick took in $44.1 million globally from IMAX theatres — crushing the record set by Iron Man 3 of $28.8 million.
It has been 14 years since there has been a new ‘Jurassic’ film in theatres, and the combination of cinematic grandeur, nostalgia and awareness helped ‘Jurassic World’ surpass analyst predictions going into the weekend, which had the film on track for a $125 million opening.
Co-produced by Steven Spielberg – who directed the first two of the four films – ‘Jurassic World’ takes us back to the island theme park where scientists first revived T-Rex and Co for paying customers more than two decades ago.
Jurassic Park was a major worldwide success in 1993, taking more than $1 billion globally. It was followed by ‘The Lost World: Jurassic Park’ four years later and ‘Jurassic Park III’ in 2001.
However, the third film got poor reviews and made far less than its predecessors.
Meanwhile, the theatres after witnessing some awesome movies with February’s erotic Fifty Shades of Grey film and May’s female-led singing comedy Pitch Perfect 2, is all set for the release of the animated Minions movie and the R-rated raunchy comedy Ted 2 this summer.
