Choreographer Remo D’Souza directorial venture, ABCD 2 has not only got rave reviews from the critics, but also managed to get the tag of breaking all the records of the movies released in 2015.
While some people have called this movie ‘a collection of music videos’, yet, go by the Box Office numbers are you’ll think otherwise.
The film collected Rs 14.3 crore on June 19, beating films such as Gabbar is Back (Akshay Kumar in the lead role), Baby (Akshay Kumar), Piku (Deepika Padukone), Tanu Weds Manu Returns (Kangana Ranaut), Dil Dhadakne Do (Anil Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Farhan Akhtar).
About the film:
This is the first time that Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor have been seen in a dance-based movie, the film also features Lauren Gottlieb and dance guru Prabhudheva. The film is based is based on real life and it revolves around the journey of an Indian dance troupe and their journey to regain fame after experiencing sudden downfall. Â
Till now, ‘ABCD 2′ has recorded the highest opening weekend collection with Rs. 46.32 crore, followed by Akshay Kumar’s ‘Gabbar is Back’ which made Rs. 39.41 crore and Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’ and Priyanka Chopra – Ranveer Singh’s ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’ which made Rs. 38.15 crore and Rs. 37.05 crore respectively.
It seems like the makers of ABCD 2 have hit the bull’s eye by releasing the movie at the time when kids are all geared up for outings with their parents. The film is a total family entertainer, as the theatres remained jam packed on the weekend. Smart marketing and with some excellent dance sequences, raised curiosity that in turn drew the crowds. With no big release in the coming week, we won’t be surprised if the dance film becomes one of the biggest blockbusters of 2015 and this can add as a perk for this film.
