New Delhi: The Rajasthan CM is expected to meet the two BJP heavyweights on the sidelines of a function in Anandpur Sahib, Punjab over allegations that she testified in favour of former IPL chief Lalit Modi’s British immigration application in 2011.
According to reports, Raje had phoned Shah on Wednesday and clarified her position over the controversy ‘Lalit Modigate’ row.
Speculation raged whether the BJP leadership would discuss with her the issue of her continuance in the wake of damaging disclosures that she had purportedly signed a secret witness document favouring Lalit Modi’s immigration plea in a London court.
Raje was hit by a controversy following revelation apparently made in a statement released by Modi’s legal team.
The BJP is in no mood to defend Raje, who was told by the leadership to defend herself as it is already facing embarrassment over External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj. Sushma helped Lalit Modi procure documents to travel to Portugal last year for his cancer-stricken wife’s treatment, a BJP leader told IANS on the condition of anonymity.
Congress has been demanding her imediate resignation along with that of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, saying they have no right to continue in office after helping the former IPC Chairman who is facing money laundering and other charges.
Former Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Thursday demanded the resignation of the current state chief, Vasundhara Raje, on moral grounds.
Taking a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress leader Digvijay Singh on Thursday wondered whether the RSS was now on his “radar” as he had already “taken care” of Sushma Swaraj and Vasundhara Raje.
“By celebrating Yoga Day on Hedgewar’s death anniversary, is Sangh on his radar ? You never know. I won’t be surprised.”
Youth Congress yesterday held a protest march which began at Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee headquarters and was led by All India Youth Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja and PCC vice president Dr Raghu Sharma.
