B.com (Hons)

Eligibility: 10+2 (preferable a commerce student)

Course duration: 3 Years

Course details: Financial Accounting, Micro Economics (I), Business Statistics, Business Law, Corporate Accounting, Cost Accounting, Macro Economics, Indian Economics and Corporate Tax Planning.

Career prospects: After completing graduation, a student can join any private or government organization as a specialist in any of the streams of commerce – such as economics and accountancy. They can also work as management executives, accounts executives, junior accountants or pursue a career in auditing or banking.

Career options: Investment banking, forensic accounting, insurance, taxation, capital market, chartered accountancy, financial analyst.

Economics (Hons)

Eligibility: 10 +2

Course duration: 3 Yrs

Course overview: Principal of Economics, Mathematical Method for Economics, Statistics for Economics, micro economics, macro economics, public finance, economic policy and mathematics.

Career prospects and job opportunities: The employment options open to those who specialize in economics are manifold. To begin with, government enterprises, public undertakings, banks, finance and investment firms, business journals and newspapers and the private sector throw up many avenues of employment in various departments.

The Indian Economics Services are also an excellent option open to those who want to join government service. Officers are recruited through examinations conducted by the Union Public Service Commission. Another highly lucrative avenue open to those looking for government employment is the Reserve Bank of India.

The RBI conducts written tests for the purpose. Prospects for economists are good in all sectors of the economy. The economies of the world are growing in unison and most are growing rapidly and naturally with the increases economic activity, economists will find many more opportunities to utilize their educational qualifications remuneratively.

Job profile: Journalist, scriptwriter, English professor, storyteller, freelance writer

Course overview: You will study a range of literature, from classics to modern novels, and poetry. Understanding their implied meanings is part important. Similes, metaphors and interpretations will be part of the course. If you don't enjoy reading, you will be in for a tough time. Your writing skills and reading of literature will widen your perspectives as you do the course.

Job opportunities: You can choose from a number of jobs, such as teaching, publishing, journalism, writing, advertising, research or translation. Becoming a scriptwriter or author is another possibility. Publishing houses also commission you to author books. You can become an English teacher or join the KPO and BPO industry.

Duration: 3 year

Course overview: A combination of theory and practical’s, you will study ecology, molecular biology, biochemistry, biophysics, physiology and taxonomy.

Job opportunities: Some outdoors positions to consider include that of ecologist, taxonomist, conservationist, forester or plant explorer. A person with an inclination towards mathematics can opt for the field of biophysics, developmental botany, and genetics or systems ecology.

An interest in chemistry can provide you with the opportunity to become a plant biochemist, molecular biologist or plant physiologist. Biotechnology is a promising field to enter as well. Eligibility: 10+2 in science, other criteria vary from college to college. Some hold entrance exams as well.

Course overview: Study the whole arena of animals from behavior to health and well-being of the animal. Practical’s make you familiar with lab equipment, research techniques and computers.

Job opportunities: You can work as a research zoologist, conducting experiments on specific animals. Zoologists spend their time outdoors, as part of their course as well as their work life. Zoos absorb many trained individuals. Other opportunities include government, environmental consulting firms and conservation groups.

You will study about Indian political thought, western political thought, public administration, Indian Foreign Policy, United Nation, etc.

Job opportunities: Political scientists can work as advisors to politicians or political parties. Working in government organizations or as a civil servant is a preferred choice. Some work in NGOs or political movements. Teaching, journalism, researchers are some other fields for students with a background in Political Science.

In your third year, you would opt for a specialization such as industrial psychology, child psychology or applied psychology.

Course overview: Your course will be a detailed study of the past. Pre-existing monuments and tracing the past will be part of the curriculum. Research programmers will be part of the programme, which will include re-visiting historical scripts. Indian history- ancient, medieval and modern history, European History, world wars, etc will be part of your syllabus.

Job opportunities: Researcher, museum curator, records officer, epigraphist, teaching, work with the government, media, advertising, publishing, fashion or design.
