Birthday Boy PMs Day Out

Date:

New Delhi: It has been a complete year since Narendra Modi trotted to claim the throne at 7 RCR, defeating the Congress named goliath with a massive mandate across the country and become the 15th prime minister of the country, a real-life fairytale to the once tea-seller to the leader of the world’s largest democracy.

On the first anniversary of his government, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi decided to wake the country with a message he had for each and every one of them.

In two letters to the nation put out as a newspaper ad to mark his one year in office, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said his government had rejuvenated a languishing economy, brought a corruption-free rule and restored trust.

The letters, which PM Modi addressed to “My dear fellow citizens,” was front-paged in all leading newspapers this morning.

In his letters, released on Tuesday, he said people’s expectations are “high” and there is “much more to be done” as he enlisted the work done over the last one year, ranging from “rejuvenating” the economy to initiatives for the poor.

He said his government systematically went about addressing the challenges and its endeavour is to transform the quality of life, infrastructure and services.

Modi then went on to meet President Mukherjee and Vice President Hamid Ansari. He also interacted with all staffers at the Prime Minister’s Office and said his experience had been that “government functionaries and the common man, think alike, and if given the right atmosphere, the government machinery can deliver results for the common man.”

He praised the officers, as “Team PMO”, for the hard work and dedication with which they are performing their duties.

He then went on to launch the Kisan channel, a government of India initiative that will be a television channel exclusively for farmers across the nation.

Modi said the country cannot move forward without their progress and called for increase in crop productivity by 50%.

Launching DD Kisan Channel, which would provide information about best agricultural practices and related content, to mark the completion of his government’s first year in office, Modi lamented that present system had left farmers to fend for themselves and there was a need to make the sector “vibrant and dynamic”.

“Why experts from various fields including seed, soil and fertilizer cannot come together to help farmers and increase productivity… The farming community is a big one. And, if we have to take India forward, we will have to take the villages forward,” Modi said.

Later in the day, Modi met BJP workers in the party headquarters in the national capital and indulged in friendly banter with them.

He went on a nostalgic trip and asked a previous driver about his family’s well being and relived old memories. Clearly the PM was enjoying every moment of his government’s birthday.
