Bomb-ed Velvet

Date:

If someone would be ruing the failure of Bombay Velvet to mesmerise the movie-goers or tease the box office, it must be the one with the bee-stung lips. Who, you ask?

The one with the bee-stung lips: Anushka Sharma.

It was for this film apparently that she did what she did to herself. Even though she ended up bagging one of the most eligible bachelors in the process, yet, the lips, they are in no shape whatsoever. Pretty much like the movie.

Movie come and go, the silver screen is hardly bothered. But then, the audience isn’t that forgiving. Especially when the maker has a name called Anurag Kashyap. That’s enough to compel someone to book the tickets without even reading the review. With films like Gangs of Wasseypur under his belt, Anurag has delivered quality. He’s been fearless.

So, then, why is Bombay Velvet becoming such a social outcast?

Well, precisely because it’s a bad movie. A bad movie that has an Anurag Kashyap tag to it.

The problem here isn’t the movie itself, but the way Anurag has chosen to be defensive. It’s great to have conviction in your own ideas, but it’s simply bad to rubbish criticism and still shout from the rooftops that your movie is the best.

Anurag, you have our respect as a film-maker. We understand that every single movie that comes from your label doesn’t have to impress us. But then, we pay for the tickets, which gives us the right to judge it. We are very well allowed to say that we liked it, or we didn’t.

As for Karan-villain-Johar, we are zip-locked.
